1. This project is much easier using strips of velvet yardage instead of the ribbon which was so very expensive. You will need six pieces of 4" x 6" velvet in one color and another set of six of the same 4" x 6" in either the same velvet, a contrasting color or even a different fabric altogether. The second set of strips will become the back side of each petal.
2. Take a strip of the velvet and emboss. See instructions for embossing velvet if needed (at the bottom of the home page)and emboss your design on the velvet. The one difference is that you will mist the velvet, lay your stamp right side up and then use a piece of steam a steam, and then its protective paper. Then iron. The steam a seam will adhere and give stability to the flower.
3. After doing this with all six strips, remove the paper backing and iron your contrasting velvet or other fabric to the back with its right side up.
4. Now you need to cut out each piece in a rounded triangle petal shape. Use the pinking shears so that your edges will not fray. They do not have to be identical but similar in size.
5. Use the needle and thread and gather the straight short side and sew three together.
6. Repeat this with the second set of petals. Insert the stamens in the center and sew on the pin backing.
