Instructions
1. Measure out and cut two 7" pieces of 3 inch wide velvet ribbon. Cut four 7" pieces of 2 inch wide velvet ribbon.
2. Emboss the velvet. Preheat your iron to the cotton setting. Hopefully you will have practiced this technique before, and if not, try your initial embossing on a left over scrap of the ribbon.Very lightly mist the wrong side of the entire piece of velvet. Lay your rubber stamp with the rubber side facing up. Lay the velvet wrong side facing up, on top of the rubber image. Now, place the iron flatly over the entire rubber image. If the iron touches the rubber of your stamp, it is OK. Hold for about 20 seconds, and until the velvet is completely dry. Repeat this process embossing all 6 cut pieces of ribbon.
3. Apply a light coat of the PVA adhesive to the back of all the pieces of velvet using a foam brush. Attach the 3" wide embossed ribbon down the center of both pieces of book board. Attach the 2" wide pieces of ribbon one either side of the 3" wide ribbon.
4. Turn both pieces of book board with ribbon attached over, so that the right side faces down on the work surface.
Now, cut the four corners of each piece of velvet (as shown below) leaving approximately 1/4" of fabric between the point of the book board and your cutting line. Do this for both covered pieces of book board.
5. Fold over the top edge and make sure it is secured with glue. Scrunch the little corner in and fold over the side of the long side of velvet securing with glue. Repeat until all corners of both pieces are neatly folded and secure.
6. Choose the piece that will be the back cover of your accordion book. Draw a line horizontally across the middle of the book board. This will be where the ribbon is attached. Put a small dot of glue or double stick tape in this line to hold the ribbon in place. The center of the ribbon goes here. Attach ribbon now. Apply glue to outer edges and center of the back panel of the accordion paper. Attach the back piece of paper over the ribbon on the back cover.
7. Apply glue to the top panel of the accordion paper and attach the top book cover.
8. Wrap both ribbons around to the back and the around to the front and tie in a bow!
Tip: When you are putting the glue onto the front and back panels of the accordion card, slide a piece of scrap paper between the folded card and the panel you are applying glue to. This will keep the glue from touching any other part of the accordion card and causing a sticky mess.
9. Wrap ribbon around the back and then to the front and tie in bow. You are finished.
